Violet Freier

Violet "Vi" B. Freier 89 of Harlowton, MT went home with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, May 21^st, 2021 in a Billings Assisted Living Facility. Vi was born July 8, 1931 in Golden Valley, ND the daughter of Edwin and Lydia (Lapp) Halter.  She received her schooling in North Dakota and on March 18^th, 1948 she was united in marriage to Richard Freier in Billings.  Vi & Richard were married 60 years and raised two daughters together.

 In 1950 they moved to Harlowton where they quickly became part of the community and members of the American Lutheran Church.  Mom's faith was important to her and she was very involved in her church.  She taught Sunday school, led the youth choir, Luther league, served on the church council and was a member of the ACLW.

She enjoyed embroidering, crouching, knitting and painting.  Her children and grandchildren received many "made with love" items.  She taught herself how to sew and made her girls clothes throughout their school years.  She loved to read and learn, taking typing classes, learned to play the flute and painting lessons all as an adult.

After her girls graduated, she taught at the Duncan and Spring Water Colonies for a total of 17 years.  When she retired her flower beds became her passion.  At the crack of dawn, she would be out watering and weeding.  When her work was done, she would sit and rest on her swing and enjoy their beauty.  She was still watering and weeding at age 87.

Mom, we will miss our morning coffee and chats in your sunroom, our summer trips, your smile and hugs, rest in peace.

She is survived by her two daughters Peggy (Mike) Giltzow of Boise, ID and Terry Swanz of Harlowton, MT; brother August (Patty) Bentz and sister Nancy Bentz of Billings, MT; grandchildren Tim (Juli) Giltzow of Boise, ID, Katie (Ike) Ukaegbu of Fort Worth, TX, great grandchildren Porter and Gracie Giltzow, Devin, Rosie and Spencer Ukaegbu and several loved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Richard, grandson Chris, parents and one sister Irene.

Memorial Services for Violet "Vi" Freier will be Saturday, June 26^th, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. in the American Lutheran Church in Harlowton.  Cremation has taken place and committal will be at a later date in the Harlowton Cemetery.  The Perkins Funeral Home is assisting the family.
