Kenton Earl Barnhart

September 23, 1948 — October 23, 2024

Harlowton

Kenton Earl Barnhart, known affectionately as "Barney," passed away on October 23, 2024, at the age of 76. He was born to Clifford and Pearle Barnhart on September 23, 1948, in Billings, Montana. Kenton spent his early years in Broadview and then Shepard until 1958 when his family moved to Harlowton, where he spent the majority of the rest of his life.

Barney was a dedicated ranch hand who found joy in the great outdoors. He enjoyed fishing with his brothers and friends, especially catfishing with his wife, Trish, his son-in-law, Jim, and his grandchildren, Rowdey, Mikayla, and Cheyenne Clements. His love for the outdoors extended to his hobbies, which included fishing, hunting, woodworking, and tinkering with anything that caught his interest. Barney was proud to be a grandfather to Rowdey, Mikayla, Cheyenne Clements, Paisley, Maverick, and Josie Holden, and he cherished every moment he had with them. Kenton was also deeply committed to his country. He served 25 years in the National Guard and achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class. His leadership and dedication continued through his role as Post Commander of the American Legion Post 15 and as a service officer and adjutant. Kenton proudly flew his American Flag wherever he was stationed: home, camping in the mountains, or wintering in Arizona for two years.

Kenton was preceded in death by his loving parents, Clifford and Pearle Barnhart, niece Jennifer, and his long-time companion (dog) Zeke.

Kenton is survived by his wife, Trish Barnhart; his acquired children, Jim and Amber Clements, Cody and Daisy Holden; and grandchildren Rowdey, Mikayla, and Cheyenne Clements, Paisley, Maverick, and Josie Holden. His siblings Jane Jackson, Kathy Barnhart, Jack (Lynda) Barnhart, and Gary (Lanita) Barnhart. Barney also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, and never to be forgotten is his trusty four-legged companion, Ace. Known for his ornery spirit, prankster nature, and bullheadedness, Barney had a unique ability to bring laughter and joy to those around him. His generous heart and willingness to help anyone in need left a lasting impact on the lives of many.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
