Doris Bouchard 92, left early Thursday morning, July 16, 2020, to go dancing with her late husband, Bud, at Wheatland Memorial Healthcare in Harlowton.  They are most likely doing a polka or two-step right now.  Doris was born on June 17, 1928 in Harlowton, Montana the daughter of Sam and Mary (Marshall) Drogitis.  She joined her brother, Harry, brothers John and Bob and sisters Marjorie, Sophia and Gloria followed to make the family of seven children.  Sam worked for the Milwaukee railroad and his job took him and the family to places like Eustis, Three Forks, Ringling, and Two Dot all during their childhoods.  Doris graduated from Harlowton High School, while living in Two Dot.

She met and fell in love with Bud (Cecil) Bouchard.  They were married May 1, 1948 in Harlowton where they planned to live as Bud was working for the Milwaukee railroad.  Fate had other plans for the young couple, as Bud’s parents were ranching near Shawmut, Montana and needed help.  Doris and Bud moved to the ranch, living in the same home as Bud’s folks.  Their son, John, was born in 1950 and Mike was on the way in 1953 when Doris told Bud they needed their own house.  She got one!  Bud moved an old chicken coop about 80 yards from his folks and fixed it up with all the ‘modern’ conveniences; outhouse, wood burning stove, clothesline, ‘running’ water (they had to hand pump water from the well at Bud’s folks and carry it to their home).  Eventually the house was added on to, room by room, and they made it a warm, cozy home.

City girl Doris learned way more than she ever intended to about raising three boys, sheep, cooking for family and hired men, gardening and canning and living in the country.  She did it, and did it well.  Where she found the time and energy to also serve 30 years as the Shawmut School Clerk and relief clerk at the Shawmut Post Office and fill in at the Shawmut Store when needed, is a mystery.

Doris loved and cherished her family, and was absolutely thrilled when she became a grandmother.   Her seven grandchildren were her pride and joy.

She is survived by her sons John (Monica) of Harlowton, Mike (Kerry) of Augusta, Montana and Jim of Harlowton, her sisters Sophie Ness and Marge Bouldin, and thirteen great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many, many friends.

Preceding Doris in death are her husband Bud; her parents, grandson Shawn; her brothers Bob, Harry and John and sister Gloria.

Memorial Services for Doris M. Bouchard will be Friday, July 24th, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in the Assembly of God Church in Harlowton.  Cremation has taken place and committal will be in the Harlowton Cemetery at a later date.  Perkins Funeral Home is assisting the family.
