Lola “Jean” Nissen 85 passed away in Billings Montana on September 6, 2016 of natural causes. She was born Lola Jean Jellison in Harlowton Montana on December 14, 1930 to Louis and Lola (Gilder) Jellison in a house next to the Wesleyan Methodist Church. Jean was the 5th of seven children and grew up in Tuckertown just southeast of Harlowton and said she had a very happy and fun childhood.
Jean graduated from Harlowton High School on May 25, 1949 and married Elmer V. “Butch” Nissen on June 3, 1949. Butch worked for 42 years for the Milwaukee Railroad while Jean raised the family. Butch and Jean had four children Charles A., Douglas V., Ann K. and Patricia J.
Jean and Butch owned and managed the Ranch Autel from 1963 to 1972. She was also very proud of her many years working at the Harlowton Times Clarion. She was also proud of being one of the founding parents of the Harlo Swim Team. She was truly the center and the glue for our entire family. Jean was a long time member of the Harlowton American Lutheran Church.
Jean is survived by her children Charles A. (Sue) Nissen of Ranchester, WY, Douglas V. (Kim) Nissen of Evanston WY, Ann K. (John) Cantrell of Shepherd MT and Patricia J. (Steve) Hays of Portland OR; her younger brother LeRoy A. (Donna) Jellison of Forsyth, MT; 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and three brothers Ernest J. Jellison, Clyde J. Jellison, Harry W. Jellison and two sisters Erma Belle Mack Meager and Grace Marie Wallace.
Funeral Services for Lola Jean Nissen will be Saturday, September 10th, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the American Lutheran Church with Interment to follow in the Harlowton Cemetery. The Perkins Funeral Home is assisting the family.
