lola 1A piece of the true spirit of Montana was lost on the evening of October 7, 2016, when Lola M. (Bruflat) Brewington passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family at the age of 97.

Lola’s incredible journey began on August 24, 1919, in Hedgesville the daughter of Andrew and Cathryn (Gross) Bruflat and for the remainder of her 97 years she would call central Montana home. On May 7, 1934 Lola married Roy Brewington, and for the next 78 years the couple raised a family, built and ran their ranch east of Judith Gap, and proved themselves to be the epitome of Montana hospitality.

Friends of Roy and Lola would come from across the country every year to experience not only the hunting opportunities that the couple so graciously shared but also the warmth and generosity of their home. Countless evenings were spent at the Brewington Ranch with Roy telling jokes and Lola cooking a veritable feast for a myriad of guests. When morning would arrive, Lola would be the first out of bed to cook breakfast, but she was far more than just the ranch chef. An avid outdoorswoman, Lola was an accomplished hunter, who even managed to take a bull elk when she was 90 years old. Lola’s accomplishments also included a proud career in the ASCS and as office manager of Wheatland Memorial Health Care, where she worked until the age of 80. Although she had a petite figure and a warm smile, Lola was a woman of incredible grit and toughness, who treated everyone as if they were her closest friend.

Lola is survived by her two children, Larry Brewington of Lewistown, MT and Helen Conroy of Judith Gap, MT; 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 20 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Lola was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roy in 2011, her sister, and one great-grandson.

A celebration of life for Lola M. Brewington will be held on Friday, October 21, 2016, at 2:00pm in the Harlowton Federated Church, with burial to follow in the Harlowton Cemetery. The Perkins Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Friends are asked to make memorials to the Judith Gap Ambulance or the charity of their choice, and they may be left with the Perkins Funeral Home, PO Box 313, Harlowton, MT 59036.
