nohrenberg 2541Mavis Jean (Good) Nohrenberg 87, of Ryegate died at her home on Wednesday afternoon, December 7th, 2016 of natural causes.  She was born June 23, 1929 in Wood, South Dakota, the oldest of 6 children, to Alfred and Zelma (Goff) Good of Long Valley, SD.  She received her schooling in South Dakota and then helped her parents on the ranch as a sheepherder so she never finished high school. 

On Sept 5, 1947 she was united in marriage to Paul Otto Nohrenberg in Rapid City, SD.  They made their home in South Dakota on his families homestead near White River.  When she wasn’t working side by side with her husband, she worked in the ASCS Office in White River..  They sold the homestead in 1963 moved to Montana, eventually settling in Ryegate where they began ranching.  Again, when not working the ranch, , she worked in the Golden Valley Courthouse in several offices, (mostly in the  Treasurers’ Office).  She bartended at Fleck’s bar, and worked in the ASCS Office in Ryegate.  In the mid 1980’s she secured the position of County Executive Officer for the Hill County ASCS in Havre, MT.  In the mid 1990’s she retired and moved back to Ryegate.

Mavis enjoyed quilting, crocheting, embroidery, playing the piano, hunting and was an avid NBA fan.  She served on the Ryegate School Board and during the 1980’s was an active member of the Women of the Moose in Harlowton.

Mavis is survived by one son Michael P. of Ryegate, MT; two daughters, Peggy Wash of Yuma, AZ and Patsy Berry of Roundup, MT; four sisters, Donna Embree (Robert-deceased)of Rapid City, SD, Arlee Kukal (Tom) of Wamblee SD, Becky Bond(Jim) of Newcastle WY, and Betty Crown (Merlin) of Wall SD; one brother Gordon Good (Janet) of Long Valley, SD; 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grand children and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Peggy Good, husband Paul and her mother in law Minnie Nohrenberg.

Funeral services for Mavis J. Nohrenberg will be Monday, December 12th, 2016 at 1:00 pm, in Perkins Chapel in Harlowton with interment to follow in the Ryegate Cemetery. Visitation will be in the Perkins Chapel on Sunday, Dec. 11th, 2016 from 4 to 6pm.  The Perkins Funeral home is assisting the family.
